Wine Time with Cheyenne Bates

March 25, 2009

Spring is here, and cold weather is now behind us. Along with the warm weather comes an bundance of fresh fish to the area, such as pompano and cobia. I have chosen two wines that will beat the heat and complement local fresh seafood. The first is a Santa Barbara Chardonnay called Sanford, produced by Santa Barbara Chardonnay pioneers, the Terlato family. The Chardonnay goesthrough a 100 percent malolactic fermentation process, which gives it a rich, full-bodied reaminess that works equally well with a variety of foods or all by itself enjoyed with friends.

If the warming sun has got you down, Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre is the perfect remedy. The Sancerre region of France is regarded as the spiritual home of Sauvignon Blanc. Hippolyte Reverdy has just the right amount of fruit and acidity, but remains elegant and refined.  Enjoying a chilled lass of this oldworld gem seems to make the sun setting over Plaza Ferdinand last just a bit longer. Whether you’re pairing with food or just trying to relax, these wines will keep you cool, refreshed and ready for another glass. Both of these wines retail for about $20 to $25.
