Cooking Demonstration and Cocktails every third Wednesday of the month at Jackson's Steakhouse
Join Chef Irv Miller of Jackson's Steakhouse as he leads a series of summer and fall cooking classes that cover everything from shopping to preparation to presentation. Each class begins promptly at 5:00 p.m. and costs $40 per person-that covers the cooking demonstration, tastings of the recipes, wine pairings and a take-home recipe booklet so you can try your hand at Miller's recipes in the comfort of your own home. Cooking with Fresh Herbs: Wednesday, July 15 (SOLD OUT)
Commonly Used Herbs 101, including fresh-herb identification and how to prepare them for your recipes at home. Herbs can enhance food's natural flavors and can provide extra zest, creating a lively and flavorsome meal. Chef Irv will introduce you to some creative combinations that incorporate fresh herbs into your recipe ingredients. He will demonstrate how to construct compound butters to flavor your main dish, make pesto, and will surprise you with a few of his favorite and easy-to-use recipes. Tomato with basil and beyond!
Preparing Local Catch: Wednesday, August 19 (SOLD OUT)
Living here on the Gulf coast, fresh fish is indeed a must! Chef Irv will walk you through treasured local seafood favorites from the waters of our very own Gulf of Mexico. In addition, Miller will demonstrate how to prepare several of his favorite dishes. Chef will provide indoor and outdoor summer seafood cookery techniques and fresh ideas. This class will include making simple sauces and salsas along with a couple of side dishes to complement the prepared catch.
Steaks--Rubs and Marinades: Wednesday, September 16 (SOLD OUT)
Steaks--it's what we are known for here at Jackson's. In this class Chef will show you how to select the best meat cuts and identify and discuss the degrees of marbling. He will compare identical meat cuts purchased from three of our area grocery stores and discuss purchasing fine meat cuts by mail order. You will learn about different steak marinades and how to capture that perfect taste you have been looking for. Tasting will include Wagyu beef--most often called American Kobe beef. Chef will include open flame and classic pan-seared beef recipes.
Fall Holiday Ideas: Wednesday, October 21 (SOLD OUT)
Every year, the holidays seem to be here before you know it. Just in time for the season, Chef Irv will showcase some easy-to-prepare and tasty indulgences to keep your friends and family coming back for more. He will share some of his quick and creative appetizers, including turkey alternatives, game meats, innovative holiday side dishes, and the art of utilizing and preparing leftovers. Barry Phillips will demonstrate two handcrafted martinis for the perfect dinner party.
Food Artistry: Wednesday, November 18 (SOLD OUT)
The art of presenting--bringing the artistry of composition and style to the table. Chef Irv will show us presentations perfected, and will demonstrate his signature and comprehensive approach to building a dish from simple to extravagant. The arts of color contrasting, creating textures by using different cooking techniques, and degrees of layering ingredients will be useful at home and particularly for impressive entertaining. While Chef will demonstrate that visual impression is critical, he will also prepare several artful tastings for holiday entertaining.
Jackson's Steakhouse is located at 400 South Palafox Street, downtown Pensacola, and is open for lunch Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Cocktail service begins at 5 p.m. and dinner service begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
