Tuna and Avacodo Tostado
Sooner or later, just about everyone gets caught with their entertaining guard down. If you plan on watching the Beijing Olympics, or simply would like to always be ready for a party, I have a few advance planning suggestions for you. These simple steps will let you get organized for preparation of quick and fascinating hors d’oeurves in a snap. Begin by making a shopping list. Write down your favorite snacks and leave space for prepared items to stock your pantry. I recommend a variety of high quality, international prepared foods. Make sure you shop a few days out from the weekend!
I suggest prepared tapenade or olive spread, prepared hummus, sun-dried tomato tapenade, calamata olives, green olives, roasted red peppers, spicy roasted pepper or pimento puree, capers, artichoke spread, pickled ginger, wasabi powder, sweet red chili sauce, siracha or hot red sauce, soy sauce, peanut butter, hot pepper jelly, chipotles in adobo, chipotle sauce, canned garbanzo beans, canned black beans, extra virgin olive oil, horseradish, spicy and flavored mustards a few varieties of gourmet crackers and club crackers, to name a few.
In the fridge and freezer, keep tortillas, French bread, garlic, avocados, cilantro, lemons and limes, sour cream, mayonnaise and a small but decadent selection of cheeses, such as goat cheese, Brie or Camembert, feta and mild or sharp Cheddar.
These global ingredients supply you with a wide array of appetizer possibilities! Keep in mind you will most likely need some additional fresh produce, seafood or meat cuts available to really kick up the party.
Let the creative juices flow, and expand you pantry ingredients a little at a time each time you go to the store, that way it will not be so overwhelming! Have fun with it, and of course, always have some of your favorite beer and red and white wine on hand and chillin’!
